Avcılar sits on the west side of Küçükçekmece Lake, between the lake and the Marmara. It is a university district with a lively centre, and many families live in the apartment blocks around it. A stroller rental in Avcılar is usually for a family visit or a stay in a rented flat.
Walks in Avcılar
- The lake shore: a park and walkway along Küçükçekmece Lake, flat and quiet in the mornings.
- Ambarlı and the coast: seaside parks with playgrounds.
- The centre: busy, with steep side streets; stick to the main avenue with a pram.
Getting around
The Metrobüs crosses Avcılar on its way to the city. It is the quickest public route east but very full at peak times, so travel mid-morning with a stroller. Taxis are easy to find. There is no metro in the district.

A full-size stroller with good wheels for hilly streets, or a light travel stroller if you will use the Metrobüs. A car seat for taxis and family cars. For the flat, a crib and a high chair. A baby carrier helps on crowded buses.
Good to know: the lake shore is windy in spring and autumn. Pull the stroller hood down, bring a blanket and dress your baby in layers for the walk by the water.
