Hotel crib or travel cot in Istanbul? 4 checks for better baby sleep

Hotel cribs vary a lot. What to ask your hotel, what to check on arrival and when renting a travel cot is the better choice.

Hotel crib or travel cot in Istanbul? 4 checks for better baby sleep

Hotel crib or a travel cot in Istanbul? Good sleep makes or breaks a family trip. Many Istanbul hotels offer a baby cot, but the quality, size and number available vary a lot. These four checks help you decide and make sure your baby sleeps safely wherever you stay.

1. Ask your hotel before you book

  • Do they have a cot, and can they guarantee it for your dates?

  • What kind is it: a wooden crib or a folding travel cot?

  • Is a fitted sheet and a firm mattress included?

  • Is there space for the cot next to your bed?

Apartments and smaller boutique hotels often have no cot at all, so ask early.

2. Check the cot on arrival

Whatever you choose, check it before the first night. The mattress should be firm, flat and fit snugly with no gaps at the edges. The sides should be stable and locked, and there should be no loose or broken parts. Remove pillows, toys and soft bedding from the cot. The NHS publishes clear safe-sleep advice for babies that is worth reading before you travel.

3. Think about the whole stay

If you are moving between hotels, staying in an apartment, or travelling with twins, a rented travel cot in Istanbul gives you the same cot every night, set up and ready when you arrive. Two cots for twins are rarely available in the same hotel; see our tips for Istanbul with twins.

4. Plan the room for sleep

  • Darken the room: Istanbul summer mornings start early, and the call to prayer can wake light sleepers.

  • Use a white-noise app if the street is busy.

  • Keep the bedtime routine the same as at home.

  • Bring a familiar sleep sack or blanket that smells of home.

When a travel cot in Istanbul is the better choice

  • Your hotel cannot guarantee a cot, or offers only a very small one.

  • You stay in an apartment or holiday home.

  • You need two cots.

  • Your baby sleeps better in a cot with a raised level or a bassinet insert.

Our cribs and travel cots are cleaned and checked before every rental, with a firm, fitted mattress, and we set them up when we deliver.

Questions parents ask

Do you set up the travel cot?

Yes. We set it up in your room when we deliver and show you how to fold it if you move during your stay.

Can I add a sheet or a mattress?

Our travel cots come with a firm, fitted mattress. Ask us if you need anything extra when you book.

Is a travel cot in Istanbul suitable for a newborn?

Many travel cots have a raised level or a bassinet insert for small babies. Check the age and weight range on the product page, or message us and we will suggest one.

What if the hotel already has a cot?

Check it with the four points above. If it passes, you may not need to rent one at all. If it is small, wobbly or missing a proper mattress, a rented cot is the safer choice, and it can be delivered on the day you arrive so the first night is calm.

Add a high chair for meals and a baby monitor for evenings on the balcony to the same delivery. Read whether to rent baby gear or fly with it, or browse all equipment. A travel cot in Istanbul delivered to your room is one less thing to carry.
