Few tourists stay here, but many families do: people back home for the summer, grandparents meeting a new grandchild, couples on a long visit. The streets climb and fall a lot, and pavements in older areas are narrow. Plan walks around the flatter spots:

- Large malls with lifts and baby rooms, useful on hot or rainy days.
Getting around
The M5 metro runs through Ümraniye to Üsküdar, where you can change to the Marmaray or take a ferry to the European side. Stations have lifts. For Çamlıca Hill and its mosque, a short taxi ride is easier than walking up.
